Abu Dhabi court orders repayment of AED50,000 over signature mismatch on cheque

The dispute

The plaintiff told the court that the cheque was rejected by the bank due to the signature discrepancy, which forced him to file a complaint against the defendant. The complaint led to a criminal conviction against the man who issued the cheque.

Defendant’s admission

According to the court, the defendant acknowledged the debt through an electronic request and asked for additional time to settle the amount owed. The court considered this admission when making its ruling.

Court ruling

The Abu Dhabi court ordered the defendant to repay the full AED50,000 to the plaintiff. No further details on payment deadlines or instalments were disclosed in the ruling.
