Dubai Police Dismantle Gang That Stole Bank Data Through Fake Website
An Emirati woman woke up to discover money missing from her bank account, leading Dubai Police to arrest a six-member gang behind the theft. The group operated a sophisticated scheme involving a fake website to steal bank card details, digital wallets to receive stolen funds, and the resale of card information to other fraudsters.
How the Gang Operated
The suspects created digital wallets and bank accounts specifically designed to receive money stolen from victims’ bank cards. They also established a fake website to collect card data from unsuspecting users. When police raided their residence, they recovered bank cards and chequebooks belonging to multiple victims.
Arrest and Evidence
The arrest took place as part of an investigation launched after the woman reported the missing funds. Authorities found incriminating evidence at the gang’s home, including the stolen cards and chequebooks. Police have not disclosed the total amount stolen or the number of victims affected.
Public Warning
Dubai Police urged the public to exercise caution when entering bank card details online and to verify the authenticity of websites before making transactions. They also advised reporting any suspicious activity immediately to authorities.
