NCM forecasts rain, fog and gusty winds across UAE from Saturday through midweek
The National Centre of Meteorology predicts that eastern areas of the UAE may see rain on Saturday afternoon, October 17, while humid conditions overnight raise the chance of fog or mist along the coast and inland.
Saturday’s outlook
Under fair to partly cloudy skies, convective clouds are set to develop over eastern regions during the afternoon, potentially producing showers. Temperatures are forecast to climb to between 37 °C and 42 °C in inland zones, 35 °C to 40 °C on the coast and islands, and 28 °C to 33 °C in the mountains. Humidity could reach 90 % in coastal and inland areas overnight into Sunday morning, enhancing fog prospects. Winds will stay light to moderate, generally 10–25 km/h, with occasional gusts up to 40 km/h that may lift dust. Sea conditions are expected to be slight to moderate in the Arabian Gulf and slight in the Oman Sea.
Sunday to Tuesday progression
On Sunday, October 18, the NCM anticipates fair to partly cloudy weather, with convective clouds forming over northern and eastern districts in the afternoon and bringing a chance of rain. Humidity will increase overnight and into Monday morning, raising the likelihood of fog or mist in coastal and inland locales, while southeasterly winds shift to northwesterly, occasionally reaching 40 km/h and stirring blowing dust. Monday, October 19, is expected to remain fair to partly cloudy, with a possibility of rainfall over eastern and southern areas as afternoon convective clouds develop. Overnight humidity into Tuesday morning could generate fog or mist in western sectors, and winds may strengthen to 40 km/h, lifting dust in exposed spots. Also on Tuesday, convective clouds could again appear over eastern and southern regions in the afternoon, accompanied by possible rain.
Midweek details
Tuesday night into Wednesday morning may become humid, with a chance of mist in western areas; winds could strengthen to 50 km/h at times due to cloud activity, producing blowing dust. Wednesday’s weather is projected to stay fair to partly cloudy, with convective clouds potentially delivering rain to eastern and southern districts during the afternoon. Humidity will rise overnight and into Thursday morning, making fog or mist possible in coastal and inland zones, and winds could reach 40 km/h, again raising dust.
Underlying cause
The NCM attributes this pattern to an extension of a surface low‑pressure system that is accompanied by an upper‑air low‑pressure system.
