Sharjah Charity International Reports 30.7% Surge in Domestic Aid Spending to Dh94.4 Million
Sharjah Charity International has recorded a 30.7% increase in domestic aid expenditure, spending Dh94.4 million in the first nine months of 2026, up from Dh72.2 million during the same period a year earlier. The organisation reviewed approximately 10,000 applications for assistance, providing financial support to thousands of vulnerable families and individuals across the UAE.
Increased Efforts to Alleviate Hardship
Mohammed Rashid bin Bayat, Vice-Chairman of the charity’s Board of Directors, attributed the rise to the organisation’s ongoing commitment to easing the burdens of those in need and advancing its humanitarian objectives. He noted that the volume of applications underscored the scale of daily operations and the charity’s determination to reduce suffering among disadvantaged individuals and families.
Each application underwent review by social research teams and specialised committees, which assessed applicants’ circumstances and determined their eligibility for support.
Breakdown of Assistance Provided
The charity disbursed Dh10.5 million in regular monthly assistance to 6,844 registered beneficiaries. This group includes widows, divorced women, senior citizens, and low-income individuals. The programme aims to help recipients cover essential needs, maintain financial stability, and improve their quality of life while preserving their dignity.
Urgent assistance accounted for the largest share of spending at Dh71.3 million, covering education, medical treatment, housing, and cases requiring relief from acute financial hardship. Specifically, Dh12.5 million was allocated to support 1,857 students in continuing their education and pursuing academic goals. Medical treatment received Dh35.3 million, benefiting 1,255 patients with urgent and complex healthcare needs. A further Dh6.4 million went to 1,140 individuals facing difficult circumstances, while Dh16.9 million was directed to 1,864 housing assistance cases, including rental payments, repairs, and maintenance.
Seasonal Campaigns and Community Solidarity
The charity also dedicated Dh12.5 million to its Ramadan and Eid Al Adha campaigns, which provided iftar meals for fasting people, Eid clothing, Zakat contributions, and distribution of sacrificial meat to eligible families. Bin Bayat said these seasonal initiatives were designed to strengthen social solidarity and ease the financial strain on families during Ramadan and the Eid celebrations.
Bin Bayat emphasised that the results reflected the charity’s long-standing humanitarian mission and its commitment to helping beneficiaries become more self-sufficient and improve their living conditions. He urged philanthropists, donors, and the public to continue supporting the organisation’s initiatives, which reach thousands of families across the UAE.
He added that the charity’s role extends beyond financial assistance to fostering community participation and reinforcing values of solidarity and cooperation. Through its programmes, Sharjah Charity International aims to help vulnerable families meet essential needs, preserve their dignity, and achieve greater social stability, in line with the UAE’s enduring commitment to charitable and humanitarian work.
