Embassy Advisory for Emiratis

The embassy called on UAE citizens to exercise vigilance, follow instructions from French authorities, and register with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Tawajudi service. It also advised nationals to monitor the embassy’s and ministry’s social media accounts and to contact the ministry in emergencies at +971 800 24.

France Braces for More Unrest

France is preparing for another wave of demonstrations after urban violence erupted during protests a week ago. Interior Minister Laurent Nunez said on Friday that around 70,000 police officers and security personnel would be deployed nationwide on Saturday, warning that calls for violence and looting were circulating on social media. Authorities have imposed restrictions in several cities. In Paris, demonstrators will be allowed to march only along a limited route between Bastille and Nation squares. In Lyon, the city centre will be closed to protesters over the weekend.

Background of the Protests

The unrest began as demonstrations over school conditions and has since expanded into a nationwide expression of anger over the rising cost of living and the government. President Emmanuel Macron has called for a firm response to violence and looting, while his government has sought to distinguish peaceful protest from criminal acts.
