UAE passport tops global Passport Index 2026 with mobility score of 182
Emirates News Agency (WAM) announced that the United Arab Emirates passport has been ranked the most powerful in the world on the 2026 Passport Index, granting Emirati citizens access to 182 destinations and marking another first for the nation.
Officials said the result is more than just an international ranking; it reflects the UAE’s global standing and comes as little surprise to residents who see the country as a leader in mobility.
Ranking and Mobility Score
The index assigns the UAE a mobility score of 182, which consists of 138 destinations where Emirati holders can travel visa‑free and 44 destinations with simplified entry arrangements. This gives the UAE a seven‑destination lead over Singapore and Malaysia, which share second place.
Top Ten Placements
The current list shows the top five as: United Arab Emirates; Singapore/Malaysia; Spain; a group comprising France, Germany, Sweden, Italy, Switzerland, Greece, Portugal, Ireland, Japan; and South Korea/Hungary. The United Kingdom and New Zealand are ranked eighth, while Australia and the United States occupy tenth place.
Methodology
The Passport Index is calculated by Arton Capital using a points‑based system that counts destinations reachable without a visa, permit or electronic travel authorisation. It covers passports issued by the 193 United Nations member states plus six additional territories, for a total of 199 entities.
Historical Context and Significance
Officials noted that nearly two decades ago the UAE passport was ranked around 62nd, highlighting a steady climb to the top spot that reflects the country’s growing global influence, economic strategy and international trust. They added that achieving the top spot this year brings official bragging rights, and that the true value lies in the massive globalisation, diversivation, economic and political growth the UAE has experienced over the years.
Separately, the UAE has approved the federal budget for 2027‑2029 amounting to Dhs292.5 billion, as noted in an accompanying report.
