Abu Dhabi’s Khalifa Park blends green spaces with museums, rides and family attractions

For those looking to step away from the city’s pace, Khalifa Park in Abu Dhabi offers a mix of green landscapes, cultural exhibits and recreational facilities that cater to visitors of all ages. The park, located just beyond the Sheikh Zayed Bridge for those arriving from Dubai or Yas Island, is one of the first major green spaces visible when entering the capital.

Content creator Anisya R., who spends her weekends at the park, said she enjoys visiting in the evening. “Every time I come here, it feels like I’m visiting a new place,” she said.

The park features a Maritime Museum, a train ride for children, Murjan Splash Park and a small aquarium. A library and stretches of lawn provide quieter options. Entry is priced at Dh2.00, while museum and aquarium tickets cost an additional Dh5.00 each, which regular visitors describe as an exceptional bargain.

Jaya Vishnuvardhan Raju Derangula, a registered nurse, said the park’s combination of greenery and recreation sets it apart. He singled out the museum as the main highlight, noting its focus on the UAE’s history. “I especially liked the audio guides that explain the different museum sections and exhibits, making the experience more informative and interesting,” he said.

Built in 2007, the park was designed to enhance the city’s landscape and serve as a picnic spot. It remains a popular subject for content creators listing places to visit in Abu Dhabi.

Visitors’ Perspectives and Suggestions

Families often plan weekend outings at Khalifa Park. For Anisya R., whose two-year-old son enjoys the rides and the train, the park is a weekly destination. “He loves spending time here, and that makes us happy too. That’s why my husband and I bring our baby to Khalifa Park every weekend. It’s a wonderful place for family time,” she said.

Weekdays are quiet, with only the sound of wind, while weekends draw large groups who bring home-cooked meals and spread mats on the grass. During the summer, visitors tend to stay indoors, but the changing climate has encouraged more people to use the park for running or cycling.

Both Anisya and Derangula offered ideas for improving the park. Derangula suggested displaying toy train timings on large boards at entrances and at every train station. He also called for better directional signboards and clearer maps, especially for elderly visitors and first-timers, after encountering a confused elderly visitor.

Anisya proposed adding more free play areas for children, as well as affordable cafés or coffee shops where families can relax. She also mentioned a swimming pool as a potential addition. “These additions would make Khalifa Park even more enjoyable for families and children,” she said.

Describing the park to someone who has never been, Anisya said: “You can enjoy horse rides and experience the original train ride, the beautiful water fountain and the peaceful atmosphere. There are so many more experiences waiting for you at Khalifa Park.”

Practical Information and History

Parking is available near the park. The site was built in 2007 and is home to the Maritime Heritage Museum. While many visitors may not think about how the space was constructed, the park’s history adds to its appeal, according to some accounts. For first-time visitors browsing online reviews, Khalifa Park emerges as a place of small discoveries: quiet library corners, green spaces for strolling, museum exhibits and amusement rides.
