Dubai Police and McDonald’s have launched a new online safety initiative aimed at teaching children how to protect themselves while using the internet, using interactive game cards and digital screens in participating restaurants.

Launch of the Online Safety Initiative

The initiative, carried out in collaboration with the UAE’s national cybersecurity campaign “The UAE Is Safe with Your Digital Awareness”, is held under the theme “Protect Your Children in the Digital World” and coincides with Cybersecurity Awareness Month, observed each October.

It uses game cards and digital screens at McDonald’s restaurants to introduce young visitors to simple but essential online safety practices, helping them learn about online privacy, avoiding strangers and safeguarding personal information.

How the Initiative Works in Restaurants

As part of the programme, McDonald’s outlets are distributing game cards that feature safety messages, while digital screens display reminders encouraging children to stay alert online, avoid communicating with strangers and protect their privacy.

The messages place particular emphasis on the importance of never sharing personal information, private data or photographs online.

By embedding these lessons in a familiar family setting, the effort seeks to make digital safety awareness a part of children’s everyday experiences.

Part of a National Cybersecurity Campaign

The activity forms part of “The UAE Is Safe with Your Digital Awareness”, a nationwide campaign launched by the Ministry of Interior in cooperation with Dubai Police and the Dubai Electronic Security Centre.

The campaign aims to strengthen public awareness of cybercrime and online threats, especially as cybercriminals develop new methods and exploit emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence.
