An Abu Dhabi civil court has ordered a defendant to pay an influencer AED 20,000 after finding that unauthorised video content featuring the influencer was posted on TikTok and Snapchat without his consent.

Abu Dhabi Court Awards Influencer AED 20,000 for Unauthorised TikTok, Snapchat Video

Award Amount

The court awarded the influencer AED 20,000 as compensation for the unauthorised use of his image.

Rejection of Larger Claim

The influencer had originally sought AED 450,000 to cover alleged material damages, but the court dismissed that request after determining there was no proof of any financial loss.

Legal Reasoning

The judges noted that official documents showed the defendant had been convicted of publishing the video material after filming the influencer without permission, and therefore the civil court was bound by that criminal judgment concerning the act and its attribution.
