Ajman Mother Fined Dh1,000 for Striking Son with Microphone
Incident and Charges
The Ajman Federal Court of First Instance convicted a 33‑year‑old Gulf national mother of assault after she struck her son on the head with a microphone during a family dispute.
The court also noted that the boy was bitten by a dog owned by the mother, adding to his injuries.
Court Proceedings
The case entered the judicial system after the boy’s father reported the alleged assault to police, leading to a complaint that was forwarded to the Public Prosecution and then to court.
During the investigation and trial the mother denied the offence, maintaining her denial when she appeared before the court via video link, while her lawyer submitted a memorandum requesting acquittal and the prosecution urged conviction based on the evidence.
Medical Evidence and Verdict
A medical report confirmed that the boy suffered injuries that temporarily prevented him from carrying out his daily activities for up to 20 days, and the court found the boy’s statements corroborated by this report.
The judges concluded that the defence arguments did not weaken the evidence against the defendant and found her guilty of assault under Article 390(2) of the UAE Crimes and Penalties Law.
Sentencing and Leniency
In determining the penalty, the court took into account the family relationship between the defendant and the victim, granting leniency because she was the boy’s mother.
Accordingly, the court imposed a fine of Dh1,000 and ordered her to pay the applicable court fees.
