Dubai Police fine 7,735 vehicles for noise and illegal modifications in 2026 crackdown
Dubai Police have issued 7,735 traffic fines and impounded 1,630 vehicles during the first nine months of 2026 for excessive noise and unauthorised modifications. The enforcement campaign, which targets disruptive driving behaviour, particularly in residential neighbourhoods, aims to reduce disturbances and improve road safety across the emirate.
Enforcement figures
The General Department of Traffic recorded 2,045 violations and impounded 333 vehicles for excessive noise. A further 5,690 violations and 1,297 impoundments were recorded for unauthorised modifications to vehicle engines or chassis.
Penalties and legal framework
Brigadier Juma Salem bin Suwaidan, Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, said excessive noise from cars and motorcycles with modified engines or exhaust systems is a serious concern for residents. Loud vehicles can disturb communities, especially late at night, and affect public health. Sudden or unusually loud sounds may distract drivers and other road users, increasing the risk of traffic accidents.
Under UAE traffic regulations, driving a vehicle that causes excessive noise carries a Dh2,000 fine and 12 black points. Making unauthorised modifications to a vehicle’s engine or chassis carries a Dh1,000 fine, 12 black points and 30 days of vehicle impoundment. Brigadier bin Suwaidan explained that additional measures may apply depending on the nature and seriousness of the offence under Dubai Decree No. 30 of 2023, which covers vehicle impoundment and applicable release fees. He emphasised that Dubai Police will take firm action against behaviour that threatens road safety or disrupts residents.
Planned expansion of noise detection
Dubai Police are preparing to increase the number of devices used to detect and measure vehicle noise. Plans call for expanding their deployment across roads and areas where such violations occur. The technology will help identify noise sources and offending vehicles, strengthening traffic monitoring. Brigadier bin Suwaidan said the expansion reflects Dubai Police’s commitment to using smart technologies to improve road safety and protect community quality of life.
Community awareness and responsible driving
Brigadier bin Suwaidan urged vehicle owners, particularly young motorists, to comply with traffic laws, avoid illegal modifications to engines and exhaust systems, and refrain from driving in ways that disturb others. He noted that responsible driving demonstrates respect for fellow road users and residents. He also highlighted that increased enforcement and growing public awareness have contributed to a recent decline in excessive vehicle noise. Dubai Police will continue strengthening monitoring measures and awareness efforts to sustain this progress.
