Major General Khalifa Al Muhairi: Dubai Police’s badge number 8 who joined at 15 and helped build the force
The late Major General Khalifa bin Dhaen Al Muhairi, a founding member of the Dubai Police Force who joined as a teenager and held badge number 8, has been remembered for his pivotal role in building the emirate’s law enforcement body from its earliest days.
Early years and joining the force
Al Muhairi became a member of the Dubai Police Force soon after its creation in 1956. He was just 15 years old when he enlisted, receiving police number 8 and a monthly salary that did not exceed 90 Rupees. His entry marked the start of a career that would span decades and help shape the institution.
Service under foreign and Emirati commanders
Throughout his service, Al Muhairi worked under the first three foreign commanders who led the Dubai Police Force. Later, he continued under Emirati commanders as the force transitioned to local leadership. He was part of the initial generation of Emirati citizens who laid the foundations for what the Dubai Police Force is today.
Key stations and legacy
Al Muhairi progressed through multiple roles and locations. He served at the Zabeel Police Station and later managed the Nad Al Sheba Police Station, a posting that stands out as one of his most notable achievements. He remained in service to the emirate until his retirement, working alongside a group of fellow Emirati citizens who together built the force from scratch.
