Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed: Confronting extremism is key to eradicating terrorism
Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, has called for confronting extremism as a necessary step in the broader effort to eliminate terrorism.
In a post on his X account, he wrote: “Fighting terrorism without combating extremism is like pouring fresh water into the sea and waiting for it to turn into a freshwater river.”
Context of the statement
The minister’s remarks came after the United Arab Emirates strongly condemned a terrorist shooting at Hamoud Church in Jordan’s Karak Governorate, an attack that left several people dead and injured.
In an official statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated the UAE’s unequivocal condemnation of such terrorist and criminal acts. It also affirmed the country’s firm rejection of all forms of violence, extremism and terrorism that aim to undermine security and stability.
