The Federal Tax Authority (FTA) has reminded all entities subject to the e invoicing system to meet the legal timelines for its gradual rollout according to a statement issued on Tuesday. For businesses whose annual revenues fall below the50 million dirham threshold the deadline to appoint a provider is31 March2027 with full implementation required by1 July2027. The FTA stressed that early preparation was crucial to avoid administrative penalties.
Penalty and key steps
Under the rules a penalty of5,000 dirhams is applied for each month or part of a month of delay in implementing the e invoicing system including failure to appoint a accredited service provider on time. The authority explained this measure aims to encourage compliance and support the UAE digital transformation efforts in line with international standards.
The FTA outlined several essential steps: choosing an appropriate accredited service provider signing a contract and integrating with the provider and following correct procedures on EmaraTax the authority digital tax services platform.
Pilot phase and stakeholder engagement
The authority confirmed that the system readiness was tested during a pilot phase before mandatory implementation. The pilot assessed integration efficiency user experience and the preparedness of all parties. TheFTA also emphasised a phased approach and ongoing communication with government and private sector stakeholders to ensure all requirements are met before each phase deadline.
Flexible implementation mechanisms and streamlined procedures have been adopted to support business continuity the authority said. In parallel the FTA continues to organise in person awareness events across the UAE as well as virtual sessions to explain which categories must implement the system the mechanisms conditions and how to connect and activate through EmaraTax.
In September2026 theFTA held an expanded joint meeting in Dubai attended by numerous accredited e invoicing service providers companies and entities subject to the system as well as FTA officials and experts. The meeting allowed participants to identify and select a suitable provider and provided guidance on the legal framework and joining process. The event served as a platform for those responsible for implementation and service providers.
The gathering aimed to support successful implementation of the system which is expected to strengthen compliance through secure digital mechanisms. The FTA urged all subject persons to review the applicable requirements procedures legislation and guidance available on the authority website.
