Rain, strong winds and dust set to continue across UAE until Sunday
The UAE can expect further rainfall and gusty conditions through the weekend, with the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) forecasting showers until Sunday, 14 October. Winds are set to reach 50km/h, stirring up dust and reducing visibility in many areas.
Unsettled conditions persist
According to the NCM, Wednesday will be generally fair to partly cloudy, with convective clouds building over eastern and southern parts of the country during the afternoon, bringing a chance of showers. The unsettled weather is attributed to an extension of a surface low-pressure system combined with a weak upper-air low-pressure system.
Winds will be light to moderate but could strengthen during periods of cloud activity, causing blowing dust and lowering horizontal visibility. Southeasterly to northwesterly winds are expected at speeds of 10 to 25km/h, reaching 50km/h in inland and mountainous areas, while coastal winds may gust up to 40km/h.
Temperature and humidity forecast
Temperatures are predicted to climb to 42°C in inland regions, with highs ranging between 39°C and 42°C. Coastal areas and islands will see temperatures between 35°C and 39°C, while mountainous regions will remain relatively cooler at 28°C to 36°C.
Humidity will increase overnight and into Thursday morning, raising the possibility of mist formation in some coastal and inland areas. Seas will remain slight in both the Arabian Gulf and the Sea of Oman.
Showers expected through to Sunday
The NCM said Thursday could bring further rainfall as convective clouds develop over eastern areas and later spread into some inland and western regions during the afternoon. Winds could again reach 50km/h, causing blowing dust in places.
On Friday, convective clouds are expected over eastern areas, bringing another chance of showers. Saturday may see further rainfall linked to afternoon cloud development. By Sunday, rain-bearing clouds are forecast over northern and eastern areas, with showers possible during the afternoon.
Winds are expected to ease slightly from Friday, reaching a maximum of 40km/h through to Sunday. Humidity will remain high overnight and during the early morning throughout the forecast period, with fog or mist possible in some coastal and inland areas. The Arabian Gulf and the Sea of Oman are expected to stay slight throughout the period.
