Etihad Rail logs 120,000 passenger ticket sales in debut month
Etihad Rail has reported the sale of 120,000 tickets within the first 30 days of its passenger services, signalling a robust uptake for the UAE’s national rail network. The tally, recorded between 30 September and 30 October 2026, follows the official launch of the system and points to growing public enthusiasm for intercity rail travel.
Strong first month for passenger rail
Adhraa Almansoori, Executive Director of Commercial and Support at Etihad Rail Mobility, said the company aims to make rail travel a seamless part of daily life. ‘Our ambition is for passenger rail to become a natural part of everyday life, and a trusted choice that people return to time and again for comfortable, safe and reliable travel,’ she stated. She added that the first month’s response demonstrated passengers’ trust in the new transport option and reinforced the company’s commitment to refining services based on user needs and expectations.
Etihad Rail provides an alternative to road travel, with amenities designed to enhance journey convenience. Professionals can use charging points to work or prepare for meetings while travelling. Families can spend time together without the stress of driving or traffic congestion. Daily commuters gain an additional affordable and convenient option for moving between cities.
Services and connections across four cities
The network links Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Al Dhaid and Fujairah through four stations: Abu Dhabi, Dubai Al Yalayis, Al Dhaid in Sharjah, and Fujairah. Dubai Al Yalayis and Al Dhaid stations joined the existing Abu Dhabi and Fujairah stations, which had already begun operations during an introductory phase.
Etihad Rail collaborates with transport partners and service providers to offer onward connections at each station. In Dubai, a dedicated pedestrian bridge at Dubai Al Yalayis Station leads directly to Jumeirah Golf Estates Metro Station, linking passengers to destinations along the Dubai Metro Red Line. In Abu Dhabi, direct shuttle buses connect Mohamed bin Zayed City Station to key locations, including ADNOC Headquarters on the Corniche, ADNEC Centre, Reem Mall, and hotels and attractions across Yas Island. For Al Dhaid and Fujairah, additional transport options arranged with service providers help passengers reach stations and continue their journeys.
Plans for network expansion
Etihad Rail intends to extend passenger services in the coming months, with additional stations expected to open in Liwa, Madinat Zayed and other locations across the Al Dhafra Region. This expansion is set to broaden the network’s reach, serve more communities, and give additional residents and visitors access to passenger rail.
With 120,000 tickets sold in its first month, Etihad Rail aims to build on the initial response as it grows its network and connections. The planned stations in Al Dhafra will extend passenger rail access to more parts of the country, supporting the UAE’s wider vision to transform mobility and offer more travel options between its cities.
