UAE citizens gain access to automated border gates at German airports
Abu Dhabi: The UAE Embassy in Berlin announced on Sunday, 1 November, that Emirati citizens are eligible to use automated passport control gates at airports across Germany, a move intended to speed up arrival procedures and strengthen bilateral ties between the two countries.
Eligibility and registration process
The service is delivered through the EasyPASS Registered Traveller Programme (EasyPASS-RTP), which allows pre-approved travellers to bypass manual checks at immigration counters. According to a joint statement from the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the country’s diplomatic mission in Germany, travellers must be at least 12 years old, hold a valid biometric passport, and complete an advance registration at designated offices located within German airports.
Registration under the scheme remains valid for one year from the date of issue and can be renewed upon expiry.
Background and purpose
The initiative is part of broader efforts to deepen cooperation between the UAE and Germany, building on the close ties the two nations share. Officials described the new arrangement as a convenient and efficient way for Emirati travellers to enter Germany.
