Abu Dhabi Police confiscate 9,237 e‑scooters after riders break traffic rules in ten months
Abu Dhabi Police have taken away 9,237 electric scooters during the first ten months of 2026 after riders broke traffic rules by using the devices on public roads, weaving between cars and travelling in lanes not set aside for them.
Enforcement action
The Traffic and Security Patrols Directorate announced the figure, explaining that the scooters were impounded because they were being ridden in places where they are prohibited, creating hazards for both the riders and other road users.
Safety concerns highlighted
Officials pointed out that the most risky behaviours include slipping between moving vehicles, failing to stay alert to surrounding traffic and neglecting to wear helmets or other protective gear, noting that such actions raise the likelihood of collisions that could cause serious injury or death.
Advice for riders
The directorate urged scooter users to confine their travel to designated paths and tracks, to always wear a helmet and suitable safety equipment, and to avoid riding on public roads or between vehicles, stressing that obedience to traffic regulations is vital for protecting everyone on the street.
