Weekend Lane Closures and Weather Alert Advise Abu Dhabi Drivers to Plan Ahead
Lane closures on Shakhbout Bin Sultan Street
From 11.45pm on Friday, October 16, to 6am on Monday, October 19, the two left lanes on Shakhbout Bin Sultan Street in Al Ain will be closed. Motorists using this route should plan ahead, obey traffic signs and allow additional time for their journey. The closure specifically affects the two left lanes, runs from late Friday night to early Monday morning, and drivers are advised to follow road signs and build extra time into their travel plans.
Restrictions on Sheikh Zayed Bridge
The right lane on Sheikh Zayed Bridge leading to Abu Dhabi will be closed from midnight on Saturday, October 17, until 6am on Monday, October 19. Drivers traveling toward the capital should consider this restriction when planning their trips and follow directions from traffic authorities. The closure covers the right lane only, lasting from late Saturday night to early Monday morning, and motorists are urged to heed traffic guidance and allow extra time.
Phased work at Etisalat underpass
Abu Dhabi Mobility has also scheduled phased closures at the Etisalat underpass on Khalid Bin Sultan Street in Al Ain. Phase 1 ran from midnight on Saturday, October 10, to 11.30pm on Wednesday, October 14, and has now concluded. Phase 2 is in effect from 11.30pm on Wednesday to 5am on Sunday, October 18. Motorists using Khalid bin Sultan Street should check the latest traffic updates and obey road signs while the second phase is active.
Weather warnings and safety advice
Abu Dhabi Police have urged drivers to take extra care as the National Centre of Meteorology forecasts a chance of rain across parts of the UAE from Saturday to Tuesday.
Drivers should be ready for changing weather conditions: afternoon cloud formations may bring rain to eastern, northern and southern areas; higher humidity could lower visibility in coastal and inland areas due to fog and mist; and winds may reach 50km/h at times, raising dust and affecting sight.
Police have advised motorists to check the weather before setting off, reduce speed and keep a safe distance from other vehicles, and obey variable speed limits shown on electronic road signs.
They also warned to avoid valleys where water is flowing and places where rainwater has pooled, and never to use a mobile phone to take photos or videos while driving.
Drivers should follow instructions from police and other traffic authorities, consult official Abu Dhabi Mobility traffic notices and the latest weather updates before travelling, allow extra time, follow diversion signs and adjust speed to suit road and visibility conditions. Temporary lane closures and unsettled weather could affect journeys over the coming days.
